The Gdańsk monument is dedicated to the fatalities of the sea. It is situated close to the marina and the Polish Maritime Museum in Gdańsk. Its base is an emergency anchor from the passenger and car ferry JAN HEWELIUSZ. The monument was designed by Prof. Sławoj Ostrowski from the Gdańsk Academy of Fine Arts. It was unveiled on 14th January 2007 on the 14th anniversary of sinking of the JAN HEWELIUSZ. 55 passengers and crew members died then by the coast of Rügen.
