The old trading- and maritime community Ekenäs by the Kalmar Strait is one of the gems of Södermöre. With its narrow streets and picturesque buildings it is truly an idyllic spot. In former times Ekenäs was a trading centre for the surrounding communities and it had a daily steam boat connection with Kalmar. Today it is mostly a summer community. There is an excellent boat harbour and a nice bathing place for the whole family.
In Ekenäs harbour is the old harbour warehouse, moved there in 1879. Ekenäs also has two shipyards. The younger of the two, Lunds båtbyggeri, is specialised in pleasure boats, while the older of the two, Ekenäs Varv AB, founded in 1860 and located by the harbour, is specialised in repairs and reconstructions of larger wooden boats. One of these is the former ketch Pamela, built in Skredsvik in 1916, which is now undergoing an extensive rebuilding and is restored into its original external condition.
