Kårehamn is a genuine Öland fishing harbour located on the eastern side of Öland. It is a small community with less than 50 inhabitants. Here is a fishmonger as well as a simple restaurant and a small village shop. The harbour is good and has a depth of 3,6 metres in the entrance. In earlier days the mailboat to Gotland departed from Kårehamn in the winters. A pilot has also been stationed here. Off the harbour is the island Kåreholm, which is a bird sanctuary.
Situated in Kårehamn is the Öland Fishing- & Sea rescue museum, which, in the old boat house, displays the motorised rescue boat Kåreholm, built in 1945. It was in use in Kårehamn between 1947 and 1982.
