For a very long time there were remains of early medieval dishes, human bones, silver coins dating back to 951 and at the beginning of the 19th century unidentified stone foundations were found in the settlement in Lubin. It allowed assuming that there had been a lighthouse in the past serving ships sailing in the Świna River and the Bay of Szczecin. The initial archaeological examinations within the area of the settlement were executed in 2009. During the excavation works stone foundations of a sacred structure from the 12th century were discovered. It is believed that these are remains of St. Nicholas' Church who was the patron of sailors and fishermen, established here in 1124 by St. Otto of Bamberg. The church was one of the oldest Christian structures in Pomerania. A huge settlement, controlling the trade trail at the mouth of the Świna River into the sea was destroyed in 1173 by the Danish King Valdemar I' army. The temple functioned as a parish church for a long time following the fall of the town. It was pulled down as recently as in the modern times and a new church was erected in its place. There is a beautiful view of the Szczecin Lagoon from the area of the settlement.
